android gf
i only watched the trailer
Against my will I just watched a trailer for a movie Subservience, in which Megan Fox plays an android that falls in love with the father of her host family and attempts to assert herself sexually upon the man and I wonder if this is an attempt to play into the psychosexual hopes and fears that come along with artificial intelligence as it could be applied to intimacy, - here we have, on one hand, the implicit promise of technology as it aligns with the production and mechanization of porn and the release of sexual libido through computer generated imagery (3D animation and generated imagery has already become dominant genres in the porn webiverse) paired with the longstanding conservative, reactionary fear about the destruction of classical family values by the maybe-real though maybe-not, scourge of sexual vice. There’s certainly a real component to the latter there in our current zeitgeist, as I think a lot of the loss in intimacy that we’ve been feeling the past couple years comes down to the validation of the cultural-masculine urge to withhold intimacy, to remain emotionally unavailable, with an outlet to unload libidinal energy and general horniness through the frame of a phone screen. The film seems to take this a step further and posits that the android has agency and *wants* so deeply that it’s willing to kill its human family to take that all away,—now to be fair, that might not be what the movie’s about, but it’s certainly what the trailer is selling. It comes across as a horny version of Spike Jones’s Her. Seems like a so-bad-it’s-good kinda movie, though maybe it’s just bad, - I don’t know, I’ll probably not watch it, - but at the same time it’s interesting that we keep seeing emotional vulnerability represented as something dangerous when shared between human and machine with the collective subliminal fear that if we are vulnerable with the technology we surround ourselves with, in our homes, at work, that the technology will take advantage of us, - or worse, what if it reciprocates? What if vulnerability and intimacy can be made fully lifeless and assert itself violently?

I can’t put my finger on it but this makes me uneasy. Same way reading that weirdo Piers Anthony made me feel uneasy when he in a couple of stories gets around the batshit illegallity/immorality of having intercourse with children by making the children inexplicably horny and having them basically initiate/ force the poor defenseless grown adult men. It’s….. it’s a whole thing, it is.
A really good insight, I watched the movie and it was so bad I went on a no internet binge for days. What makes me horrified is the layers of all the situation, Megan Fox is a child of the porn addicted film industry that benefits from sexualising hot women actresses. She said herself she hated when everyone sees in her some idealisation the public holds upon her, but somehow perpetuates this kind of shows every time. I just don’t get it
